Reduce, Reuse, Recycle! What you can do with your old contact lenses!

Apart of a comminity effort to clean up the Northern Beaches and promote a greener future, Beckenham Optometrist is now a drop site for old contact lenses and blister packs. Apart of Terracycle and Bausch + Lomb’s partnership recycling programme, you can now come in and know your contact lenses are being disposed off in a properly.

With many contact lenses working their way back into our water-systems, damaging our wonderful environment and wildlife, we encourage our patients and all contact lens wearers to take advantage of recycling their contact lenses and blister cases.

How it works?

  • Collect your old contact lenses and blister packs of any variety and brand and instead of sending them off via post you can now bring them in store and we collect by the bulk.

terracycleWhere do my contact lenses go?

  • Once received by TerraCycle, the contact lenses and blister packs are separated by composition and cleaned. The metal layers of the blister packs are recycled separately, while the contact lenses and plastic blister pack components are melted into plastic that can be remolded to make recycled products.

As thanks for your dedication to diverting waste from landfills, a $1 donation will be made to Optometry Giving Sight for every kilogram of accepted waste sent through this programme.

Easy as 1,2,3! Make sure next time your in Avalon to bring your old contacts in so we can help clean up our environment.
